Ashraf is currently a Director in Process Development at Genentech, leading a cross-functional department of (cell culture, purification, analytical and formulation), with responsibility for the process development of early and late stage biologics and technology development. Ashraf received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Birmingham (UK). Following his Ph.D., he worked on several industrially sponsored post-docs with Novo Nordisk (Denmark), Scaba (Sweden), Unilever (UK) and Merck (USA). He held various positions at Merck & Co. Inc. with increasing responsibility for process development, cGMP manufacture and technology transfer of cell culture and microbial fermentation based vaccine processes to commercial manufacturing, and also has experience in regulatory filings. Ashraf joined Genentech Inc. in 2006 after 9 years at Merck Research Labs and has over 17 years of biotech and pharmaceutical industrial experience. He is the author of 46 peer reviewed papers and is actively engaged in the external scientific community with over 60 conference presentations and has been involved in the organization of a number of conferences. |
